MUSLIMS in the country usher in the holy month of Ramadhan today with a month of fasting. The holy month began after officials did not sight the new moon on Tuesday.
In this blessed month, it is an opportunity for Muslims to intensify their religious deeds to gain multiple rewards by performing pious acts. Muslims will take the pre-dawn meal before the start of fasting and breaking of fast meal, as well as perform night prayers like Sunnat Tarawikh, Sunnat Witir and mass reading of Al-Quran or Tedarus.
Last night marked the beginning of Tedarus at mosques, suraus and religious halls with special focus at the Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) said yesterday. The ministry added to glorify the holy month and gain benefits, Muslims are urged to multiply their pious acts by performing obligatory prayers at mosques.
The MoRA will hold a programme of Subuh prayer in congregation every Friday morning throughout Ramadhan.
Besides the obligatory prayers, worshippers will also recite selected verses of Al-Quran. Muslims are urged to join the Subuh prayer at mosques, suraus and religious halls beginning at 4.30am focussing at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong; Zainab Mosque in Lumut; Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Pekan Tutong; and Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar tomorrow.
Meanwhile on May 25, the focus will be at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital; Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Mosque in Jerudong while on June 1, the focus will be at Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in RPN Kampong Mentiri and Al-Muhtadee Billah Mosque in Kampong Sungai Kebun.
On June 8, the focus will be at Perpindahan Lambak Kanan Mosque and Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque in Kampong Mulaut.
