Mohammad Ayob bin Ali was announced champion of the Azan competition for future generation and Merbut nationwide held by the Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque Takmir Committee in Kampong Serusop yesterday.
Mohammad Ayob took first place with 92.6 points with Abdul Qawiyyel Azeez bin Haji Abdul Rajid as first runner-up with 91 points and Muhammad Hakim bin Md Amin as second runner-up with 90.7. Some 20 participants competed in the finals.
The competition was held to mark the 76th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan was the guest of honour. The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a speech by Mosque Affairs Officer of the Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque Haji Symsul Nizam bin Haji Badar.
The competition winner was announced by the chairperson of the panel of judges Mohd Suhnoromardi bin Haji Suhaimi.
The top three competitors gave their Azan performances prior to the presentation of prizes and certificates by the guest of honour.
Doa Peliharakan Sultan dan Negara Brunei Darussalam was read by Imam of Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque Haji Jofri bin Haji Abidin.
Also present were Acting Director of Mosque Affairs Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri; Acting Village Head of Kampong Serusop and Kampong Delima Satu Pengiran Roslan bin Pengiran Tuah; and Acting Village Head of Kampong Pancha Delima and Kampong Orang Kaya Besar Imas Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Ya’akub.
