MoHA welcomes active participation of youth at mukim, village level

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) refers to the letter ‘Make it mandatory for MPKs to have youth members’ by Abdul Malik Omar, published in the Opinion page of the Borneo Bulletin on September 21.

The ministry thanks the writer for sharing his suggestions on the participation of youth in the Mukim and Village Consultative Councils.

The MoHA through the District Offices issued a new policy in January 2019 for the appointment of members of the mukim and village consultative councils for the new session to include three to five members from the youth age group (between the ages 18 to 45) to be appointed as Chief of Bureau/Deputy Chief of Bureau of the mukim and village consultative councils. The inclusion of youth in committee posts may help strengthen the role of mukim and village consultative councils, foster positive social change and bolster economic activity at grassroots level.

The MoHA and the District Offices welcome the active participation of mukim and village youth in carrying out welfare programmes and economic activities at the mukim and village level to strengthen community ties and well-being as well as to nurture leadership qualities of future leaders.
