The Ministry of Health (MoH) has denied viral claims of a fundraising to acquire a hearse for Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in Tutong District.

According to the alleged fundraiser circulated widely online, the targetted amount is BND50,000 with a deadline of May 10, 2021.

The appeal also included two bank account numbers for donors to leave their contributions.

“The message is false. The MoH has never issued any open appeal for donations, and has never given permission to the parties mentioned in the message to solicit for donations on behalf of the Ministry of Health,” the MoH said in a statement.

“The public is advised to stop circulating the message. The MoH wishes to remind that disseminating information with the intent to mislead is an offence under Section 34, Chapter 148 of the Public Order Act, whereby any person, who either speaks or writes or uses any means of disseminating false reports or making false statements that may cause disruptions in public security, can be imprisoned for three years and fined BND3,000.”
