A new initiative through mobile app will be introduced this year, for the distribution of dates, a personal gift from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The initiative is aimed at improving the registration process and distribution of dates, while ensuring that all Muslims in Brunei Darussalam will receive the dates in time for the month of Ramadhan.
This was among the agenda discussed at the Coordination Meeting for the distribution of dates as a personal gift of His Majesty for Ramadhan for 1441 Hijrah/2020, held by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.
The meeting was chaired by Permanent Secretary (Planning, Land Use and Environment) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, who is also the Acting Managing Director of Yayasan.
Representatives from the 13 ministries and government departments – including the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), District Offices and the Mosque Affairs Department – that will be assisting Yayasan officials in the management and distribution of the dates, were present.
Apart from discussing the distribution process and the use of the newly introduced Kurma App, the meeting also witnessed the appointment of the Secretariat Coordinating Committee members for 1441 Hijrah/2020.
Yayasan is also providing special forms distributed through village heads, for those who did not register through the Kurma App.
As with previous years, the dates will be sent directly to all District Offices and distributed among the general public through their respective village heads.
The distribution for the RBAF and RBPF personnel will be made through their respective departments and units. Starting this year, the process of distributing dates will be extended to distribution centres at every ministry and department, including higher education institutions and mosques.
For Ramadhan this year, 158.4 tonnes of Safawi dates, supplied by Al-Madinah Dates Company in Saudi Arabia, will be delivered to all Muslims in the country, without any limits on age and nationality.
Muslims will receive a small box containing 300g of dates.
The ship carrying the dates is expected to depart from Jeddah Port, Saudi Arabia at the end of February and arrive at Muara Port by the end of March.
The distribution of the dates will commence with a launching ceremony, and then delivered to all Muslims in the country through registered distribution centres.
The management and distribution of dates for Ramadhan is a specialised annual project for Yayasan, as a charitable platform of His Majesty and members of the royal family.
