The Sungai Liang Police Station has confirmed that a 39-year-old hiker, who was reported missing on July 21, was found dead in Bukit Nanas Andulau, Sungai Liang.

A police report was lodged when the victim’s vehicle was found near the hill.

A control post was set up and a search-and-rescue mission initiated, involving the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Gurkha Reserve Unit personnels, to locate the missing hiker.

The victim was found unconscious some 2.2 kilometres from the control post the following day, and was transported to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.

The RBPF also issued an advisory, urging the public to inform family members prior to joining outdoor activities and to bring along a mobile phone, sufficient supply of food and water and other life-saving items.
