Ministry hopes to increase chicken egg exports to Singapore

The export of chicken eggs to Singapore will continue to be increased after successful shipments of 300,000 eggs in February, said Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council (LegCo) session.

He noted that the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood will work together with local entrepreneurs, and other relevant parties to further improve exports.

The minister said the country also successfully exported for the first time, seabass fillets to Singapore last August, noting that it is a processed and value-added product by Barramundi Asia Company (B) Sdn Bhd.

“They will start exporting whole fish in the near future,” he said.

Overall, the export value of agricultural and fishery products in 2022, has recorded an increase of 20.4 per cent, from BND53.53 million in 2021 to BND64.44 million in 2022.

The ministry through the relevant departments will continue to work with entrepreneurs and other relevant parties, in making coordination, planning and preparation, to export other agricultural and fishery products, such as chicken, processed meat-based products, especially in emphasising the importance of complying with the requirements and regulations set by the  importing country.

MARKETING HELP

Meanwhile, to help entrepreneurs and farmers market their products, the ministry has re-introduced the Pasar Kitani programme, and it is hoped to encourage farmers and micro, small and medium enterprises to increase the production of agricultural products and increase their income.
