The Inter-Ministerial Netball Tournament in conjunction with the 31st Civil Service Day 2025 organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports through the Youth and Sports Department kicked off at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.
The tournament, which will also run on January 17 and 24, features the participation of 10 ministries: the Prime Minister’s Office; Ministry of Finance and Economy; Ministry of Defence; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; Ministry of Development; Ministry of Health; Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
Two categories are contested in the tournament namely, the Open and Veteran.
All 10 ministries participate in the Open Category while four teams will battle it out for the Veteran Category title including Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The three-day long meet, held over consecutive Fridays, is held as a long-term and continuous netball development project, in addition to enhancing cooperation and understanding among officials under their respective ministries in advancing and improving the quality of netball in Brunei Darussalam.
The tournament is also hoped to prepare players to familiarise a standard netball match atmosphere as well as provide encouragement and support to all levels of society in the country to be active in netball in addition to attracting interest and giving confidence to players.
Participation in the competition is open to all officers and staff in the ministries and departments of the Government of Brunei.
The public is welcome to attend to further enliven the tournament and support the participating teams. – Fadhil Yunus
