Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar and Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof yesterday presided over the launching of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SHOAS) Bridge Control Centre.
The sophisticated control centre will monitor the whole operation of SHOAS Bridge. A total of 294 CCTVs have been installed along the whole SHOAS Bridge for the ease of monitoring operations.
Both ministers signed on a plaque to commemorate the launch of the SHOAS Bridge Control Centre, before proceeding to the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the centre’s operations room.
In the operations room, the ministers were briefed on the monitoring system by Vincent Chong from HSE Engineering.
They also heard a talk about several incidents recorded on the SHOAS Bridge, by engineer at the Brunei Bridge Authority Mohammad Safwan bin Aba.
The Brunei Bridge Authority has been entrusted to carry out monitoring and maintenance of the SHOAS Bridge since March 17, 2020. On December 17, 2020, the Brunei Bridge Authority activated continuous monitoring of the bridge.
The Brunei Bridge Authority provides assistance, patrol and control traffic, in addition to assisting vehicles which break down on the bridge.
Also in attendance at the launching ceremony were Deputy Minister of Development Dato Seri Paduka Ar Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin; permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries; and officials from both ministries.
