Ministers launch Digital Technology Week

The adaptation of digital technology for the public is not only as a facilitator but can also provide an alternative and synergetic effect for the ecosystem in the country involving the government, business and society, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof said.

In his welcoming remarks at the launch of the Digital Technology Week at the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2022 (Brunei MYCE 2022), Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri said this year it was aimed to make the event bigger and better by bringing in wider aspects of digital technology, namely the creative industry.

Three newly appointed Cabinet Ministers yesterday officially launched the Brunei MYCE 2022. This year’s Digital Technology Week is themed ‘Towards a Transformed New Norm’ in line with the ideas outlined in Brunei Darussalam’s Digital Economy Masterplan 2025.

Held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), the event was officiated jointly by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad.

Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri recalling the Digital Technology Week 2021, the theme of last year’s event ‘Smart Nation Through Digital Transformation’, said several conferences related to the theme were held in addition to exhibitions with public responding positively.

In relation to this year’s theme, Ir Haji Mohammad Nazri said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the positive role played by technology to new ways of connecting people and services, hence allowing the acceleration of emerging trend of digital transformation and at the same time, encouraging people to adopt digital lifestyle.”

The four-day conference covers 26 topics ranging from digital transformation, 5G readiness, smart cities, data analytics and creative industries to data security. It aims to enhance further the understanding on the development of digital technology in the new norms with the participation from the government sector, institutes of higher education, government-linked companies (GLCs), the private sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Pengiran Shamhary during the tour of the exhibitions also launched the website of Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT), www.secureverifyconnect.info which provides access of information online to the public on cybersecurity issues through social media, cyber-bullying, online predators as well as cybersecurity for children.

Meanwhile Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Abdul Manaf and Pengiran Shamhary launched new features on MyDST app at the DST Pavilion.
