Minister of Foreign Affairs II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof shared plans to set up a diplomatic academy during the 20th session of the Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting yesterday.
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA ) has to find an appropriate location for the academy, recruit skilled personnel with expertise in foreign diplomacy and consider the budget to ensure its operational sustainability.
He said this in response to a query from LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman. He added that the MFA places strong emphasis on capacity-building for its personnel, offering courses in leadership, negotiation, public speaking and other pertinent areas, such as consular affairs, protocol, administration and finance. – Rokiah Mahmud
