Minister receives courtesy call from Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Force

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received a courtesy call from Chief of Defence Force of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) General Dato Paduka Seri Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Haji Zulkifli bin Haji Zainal Abidin yesterday.

The Chief of MAF is in the country for his farewell visit from November 10-12.

Upon arrival at Bolkiah Garrison, the Chief of MAF was accorded a guard of honour comprising personnel from the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).

Both sides highlighted the close and long-standing bilateral defence cooperation that has positively contributed to the overall strength of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The courtesy call also encompassed discussions on various issues of mutual concern.

In a separate call, the Chief of MAF also met with Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.

Both the RBAF and MAF interact regularly through bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges, courses, as well as exchange of visits across various levels.

Both commanders also discussed recent developments pertaining to the deployment of troop members under the International Monitoring Team (IMT) in Mindanao, and United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
