MINISTER of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof received a courtesy call from Deputy Commanding General, United States (US) Army Pacific, US Indo-Pacific Command Major General John P ‘Pete’ Johnson yesterday.
During the call, both sides affirmed the friendly relations between the two countries and the robust bilateral cooperation in the defence and military sectors.
Both sides also expressed pleasure with the ongoing bilateral cooperation in military-related activities through participation in various courses and training opportunities that have strengthened army-to-army professional interactions and enhanced interoperability with one another.
Both the Royal Brunei Land Force and the US Army Pacific participated in the inaugural bilateral exercise ‘Pahlawan Warrior’ in August last year.
Major General Johnson will also call on the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud this morning.
Existing defence and military cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the US is cemented by the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Defence Cooperation signed on November 29, 1994. Such cooperation was also expanded to the field of logistics through Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) which was signed on July 29, 2010.
