Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof attended the first meeting of the Joint Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam Land Boundary Committee (Joint LBC) held from April 20-22.
According to a Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, the joint LBC signified another milestone to the special relations shared between both nations. Since both countries entered into cooperation on land boundary in 2012, the first joint LBC is a reiteration of commitment by both sides in finalising the Malaysia-Brunei Darussalam land boundary.
During the working visit, Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Saifuddin bin Abdullah hosted Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan to discuss cooperation following the Malaysian Prime Minister’s official visit to the Sultanate on February 14-15.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan also held talks with Malaysia’s Senior Minister of Defence Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
In 2021, Brunei was Malaysia’s 30th largest trading partner and the sixth largest within ASEAN with total trade amounting to MYR8.03 billion (USD1.87 billion), a substantial increase of 70.4 per cent, compared to the recorded value in 2020.
