Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar officiated the launching of ‘Hidden Gems: Caring for Our Senior Citizen’ awareness dissemination programme at the Health Promotion Centre yesterday.
Chairperson of the programme Muhammad Aziman bin Haji Awang Nasir said the programme was organised by Team 2 Social Outreach Programme comprising officers from various government agencies taking part in the 28th Executive Development programme for Middle Management Officers (EDPMMO).
“The team was tasked to implement a welfare programme that can give maximum impact towards the management of social issues in the country,” he added.
The project aims to disseminate information and awareness on caring for senior citizens in the country, especially in preventing falls, one of the high risk incident faced by senior citizens, through practical training.
The programme includes disseminating information through leaflets to the public during Bandarku Ceria, and the distribution of posters and banners to hospitals and health centres in all four districts.
He also thanked the Ministry of Health for its support to better understand the risk of fall, and to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the opportunity to promote the programme during the International Day of Older Person Symposium on October 22 at the International Convention Centre.
Following the launch, the Minister of Health presented posters to representatives of hospitals in four districts and certificates of appreciation to programme’s sponsors. Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham toured the exhibition booths set up by specialists from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, representatives from Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre and Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd.
