MINISTER of Culture, Youth and Sports Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, while lauding the idea of setting up an Art and Cultural Village, said the ministry was studying the need to have a specific location for the Arts and Cultural Village.
The minister made these comments at the 15th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday morning in response to LegCo member and Penghulu of Mukim Kota Batu Yang Berhormat Naim bin Haji Kamis’ question on the setting up of the Arts and Cultural Village.
The minister said, “We are using the available platform and space to support arts and cultural activities.
“Artists can exhibit and sell their work at the Art Gallery of the Dermaga Diraja in Bandar Seri Begawan. We are also planning an art gallery calendar for 2019.
“A project will be introduced at the Youth Centre for those interested in displaying their work at night during weekends.
This is a new initiative. In addition, we will open more areas at places like museums and galleries for artists to display their artwork.
“We should support artists who open galleries and art teaching centres to display and sell their work. Insya Allah, we will cooperate with the relevant parties to further develop the country’s creative industry.”
