Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof yesterday attended the opening ceremony of the 2020 ASEAN-China Year of Digital Economy Cooperation by joining a video conferencing at the ministry.
The virtual opening ceremony, themed ‘Combatting COVID-19 through Joint Efforts, Embracing Cooperation through ICT and Digital Development’, was attended by ministers responsible for the ICT sector and digital economy from ASEAN member countries and the People’s Republic of China, as well as the Secretary-General of ASEAN.
The ceremony saw opening remarks by Minister of Posts and Telecommunications of Lao PDR Dr Thansamay Kommasith as the Chair of ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN) and ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi.
The ceremony proceeded with a speech by Minister of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China Miao Wei which included the introduction on ‘Initiatives on Building a Partnership for the Digital Economy between ASEAN and China’.
The participants exchanged views on the importance of digital technologies to support the measures on controlling the spread of COVID-19 as well as to strengthen cooperation in development and innovation in the digital economy.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Corporate) at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim in his capacity as ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM) Leader for Brunei Darussalam also participated.
Acting Chief Executive of the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar and senior officials from MTIC and AITI were also present.
