Minister in Langkawi for defence expo

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof is leading the Brunei delegation to the 16th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (LIMA ‘23) from May 23 to 27 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) in Langkawi, Malaysia.

The delegation comprised Brunei High Commissioner to Malaysia Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mahmud bin Haji Saidin @ Haji Md Saidin, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Acting Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matserudin and Commander of the Royal Brunei Air Force Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohammad Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim.

The minister also had a bilateral meeting with Malaysian Minister of Defence Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan on the sidelines of the LIMA ’23. Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi congratulated Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad for the success of the 16th LIMA ‘23 exhibition. Both sides highlighted the strong defence relations between the Sultanate and Malaysia and discussed strategic issues of mutual interest including current regional and global security situation.

This year, the RBN KDB DARULEHSAN and other international navies from Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, China, United States (US), India, Pakistan, South Korea, Italy and Japan are participating at the LIMA ‘23 Fleet Review at the Resort World Langkawi.

The LIMA ‘23 Fleet Review was graced by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The RBN’s participation in LIMA ‘23 Fleet Review signifies the longstanding and strong defence relationship between the navies of Brunei and Malaysia.

The biennial event combines the best of the aerospace and maritime industries and is one of the largest maritime and aerospace exhibitions in the Asia-Pacific.

The international defence exhibition is hosted by Malaysia’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Transport with support from the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Defence Industry Council (MDIC).

The LIMA ’23 exhibition is attended by defence and transport ministers, service chiefs and senior officers from 60 countries.

Over 600 companies from 30 nations in the region and international companies from various defence and security and commercial sectors are taking part in the exhibition consisting of maritime and aerospace industry sectors (both for defence and commercial) and up to 20 international pavilions from the US, China, the United Kingdom, France, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Thailand, Italy, Turkiye, Brazil, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and Czechia.

The Ministry of Defence (MinDef)and the RBAF’s attendance provides an ideal platform to enhance engagement in defence technologies and systems realising capability development within MinDef and the RBAF.
