Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin hosted a welcoming dinner at the Rizqun International Hotel for the participants of the 18th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Women (ACW) and Related Meetings yesterday.
The event was also attended by ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), acting permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, senior officers of the ASEAN Committee on Women, ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (SOMSWD), the ASEAN Secretariat and delegates from ASEAN member countries.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Brunei Darussalam’s ACW Alternate SOM Leader Saidah binti Haji Wahid @ Burut said that the forum held yesterday enable them to gather experiences and best practices on the issues surrounding elderly women.
“We have seen recommendations to take steps towards ensuring governments and our societies are well-prepared for these new challenges,” she said.
“As we set foot into rapid development, we find our women faced with a different set of challenges compared to those in the past. Brunei Darussalam notes that resilience is the key to progress, and enhancing inter-sectoral collaboration and valuable partnerships add value to our initiatives in realising our national and regional vision.
“Against this backdrop, I believe the next two days of meetings will set a new path for the ACW, especially with the onset of the new ACW Workplan 2021-2025, and I urge ACW colleagues to take into account the significant role that young women play in shaping the future of ASEAN.”
The theme for the 18th Meeting of the ACW and Related Meetings is ‘Enhancing resilience in young women as agents of change’.
Later, the event concluded with the minister presenting souvenirs to the heads of delegations.
