Mia’s talking letter

|     Nur Mia Sarah binti Haji Mohamad Rayme, Year 9 Science     |

MY NAME is Nur Mia Sarah binti Haji Mohamad Rayme. I was placed second in the 2018 Post Office Letter Writing competition. This is an annual event and the award ceremony is held on World Postal Day on October 13.

I received news of my win through my English teacher Afiqah on October 9. I was pleased to have achieved second placing.

I attended the award ceremony at 8.30am on October 13 at the Post Office in Berakas. My mum was there and teacher Wayne, who oversaw the competition at our school, accompanied me.

Minister of Communications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof was the guest of honour who presented the prizes and certificates.

I received a certificate, a small trophy and a BND300 prize.

After the presentation ceremony, I was interviewed by RTB. They asked me to explain the letter I had written.

I said I had written as the character of a letter in the post carrying a message for future people. My personified letter talked about some of today’s problems to do with tech and social media. ‘It’ advocated that we take up letter writing again as a safe and positive way to communicate across distance.

The first place winner was from St Andrew’s School followed by Chung Hua Middle School in third place.
