On behalf of the Government, the people of Cambodia and my own behalf, I wish to convey to His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and to the friendly people of Brunei Darussalam my sincere congratulations and best wishes as both countries commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (June 9, 1992 – June 9, 2022) between Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam.
Since the diplomatic relations was established, the two countries have consolidated and intensified the bonds of friendship and cooperation. Our two countries have made significant progress in promoting political dialogue, enhancing investment, trade, tourism and business between the countries. Although our bilateral trade is limited, there are fields to explore such as agriculture, energy and tourism that our countries have in expanding cooperation in the economic field for the benefit of our two peoples. Both countries have signed an agreement on Air service, a memorandum of understanding on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income, which was signed by HE Mr Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance as representative of Cambodia and HE Mr Pengiran Kasmirhan Bin Pengiran Haji Tahir, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Cambodia as representative of the Brunei Government, a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Cambodia and the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on youth cooperation, which was signed by HE Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia and HE Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport of Brunei Darussalam, Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on Cultural and Fine Arts Cooperation which was signed by HE Mrs Phoeurng Sackona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts as representatives of Cambodia and HE Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports as representative of Brunei Darussalam. It should be noted that both sides are expected to sign later this year a memorandum of understanding between the Government of Cambodia and the Government of Brunei Darussalam on bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam.
Since 1992, Brunei Darussalam has provided assistance to Cambodia, particularly in education and human resource development. I must on behalf of all Cambodians express our gratitude to the government and the people of Brunei Darussalam for their support and generous assistance.
Our two countries share a common perception on the challenges facing our world today. I am pleased to note that Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam have maintained close collaboration in international affairs. The ASEAN forum plays crucial role in strengthening our resolve to maintaining peace, stability and security. It is the ASEAN forum that provides us framework through which our two governments would be able to work closely to consolidate the gains of the many years of fruitful cooperation and mutual support as well as address peaceful co-existence and the priority of our people both at the bilateral and regional level.
My government attaches great importance to Cambodia-Brunei Darussalam relations and is committed to furthering those relations in order to achieve greater progress and prosperity for our peoples. I look forward to continue working closely with competent Bruneian authorities in enhancing further our mutually beneficial cooperation.
I wish His Majesty good health, long life and prosperity for the people of Brunei Darussalam.
