Meeting touches on transitions from school to work

Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, and Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman attended the G20 Joint Meeting of Ministers of Education and Ministers of Labour and Employment via online on Tuesday evening.

This year’s joint meeting were represented by G20 members’ ministers, deputy ministers and representatives from the education and employment sectors, and was held after the G20 Education Ministers’ Meeting.

The Minister of Education shared some of the initiatives taken by both ASEAN and the Ministry of Education (MoE) on the transitions from school to work as part of the meeting’s agenda, MoE stated in a press release.

He also congratulated Italy for its successful leadership and supported the G20 Joint Declaration on Transitions from School to Work that signifies the commitment of G20 in fields of employment.

Brunei Darussalam, as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2021, was invited as a special guest of Italy, who holds the G20 Presidency for 2021.

Senior officials from Singapore, Spain and the Netherlands also attended as special guests to the G20 meetings.

Regional and international organisations such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Organisation for Economic Co-operative and Development (OECD), International Labour Organisation (ILO), World Bank and the African Union (AU) also attended the meetings.
