Mechanic gets jail, one stroke for robbery, posing as policeman

KUALA LUMPUR (BERNAMA) – A man who posed as a policeman to rob a secondary school student, injuring him in the process, was sentenced to four years’ jail by the Sessions Court yesterday.

Mechanic Mohd Shalihuddin Muhammad, 34, pleaded guilty to two charges of robbing the 17-year-old student and to posing as a policeman while committing the crime was also ordered to be given one stroke of the cane.

On the first count, he was charged with another person still at large, for robbing the victim’s wallet and cellphone and intentionally causing injury to the male student in front of Loke Yew Toll Plaza, Salak South Expressway, Cheras at 3pm, September 17, 2019.

On the second count he was charged with impersonating a policeman during the commission of the crime.

For the first charge he was jailed four years and ordered to be given one stroke of the cane, and for the second he was jailed one year.

Judge Izralizam Sanusi ordered the sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest on October 27, 2019.

Deputy public prosecutor Afiq Nazrin Zaharinan prosecuted while Mohd Shalihuddin was not represented.

Based on the facts of the case, on the day of the incident the accused had introduced himself as a policeman and tried to inspect the student by taking his wallet and mobile phone from his pocket and also tried to take the teen’s motorcycle key.
