‘Matters of Choice’ on top in anti-corruption video contest

The Matters of Choice group earned first place in the Anti-Corruption Short Video Competition 2024, receiving a BND2,000 cash prize for their video Price of Corruption.

Muhammad Firdaus bin Haji Ibrahim won second place and received BND1,500 for his video Rasuah Menghancurkan Masa Depan Keluarga, while the Drama Pondok group was third place, receiving BND1,000 for their video Kejujuran.

Three consolation prize winners – Project Rataie group, Mohamad Zulnazri bin Donglah and Grade A Production group – received BND700.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) also selected five participants to receive the Anugerah Pilihan BMR (ACB’s Pick Award) as a token of appreciation to recognise their effort and dedication in producing high-quality anti-corruption videos that have the potential to make an impact on the audience. The recipients included Tim Sebatang Sentol group; Muhammad Aqil Faiz bin Abdullah; Stellar Films group; Widuri binti Haji Maidin; and Syed Harith bin Syed Rozman, who all received BND200.

The prize presentation was held at the ACB Headquarters yesterday. It commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by opening remarks from the guest of honour, Director of ACB Datin Paduka Hajah Anifa Rafiza binti Haji Abdul Ghani. The event continued with the screening of the top 11 videos from the winners.

The competition, organised by the ACB in conjunction with the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2024 was themed ‘United Against Corruption’. It was open to public from October 24 to November 30.

Some 42 videos were received from participants from primary and secondary school students, higher education institution students, public servants, private sector employees, as well as freelancers. It is one of ACB’s initiatives to diversify strategies in combating corruption, while also raising public awareness and encouraging cooperation and involvement between ACB and the public in the fight against corruption.

Besides the competition, a Friday sermon on ‘Integrity in the workplace’, was also read in all mosques and suraus in the Sultanate on November 29, in a joint initiative with the Mosque Affairs Department at the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The sermon emphasised that workers with integrity should carry out their duties and responsibilities with discipline, while upholding high standards of conduct and ethics. They should also be wise and able to distinguish between right and wrong actions.

The IACD celebration is celebrated every December 9, in line with Brunei Darussalam’s commitment as one of the member countries to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), since signing the convention in 2003.
