Martial arts wow crowds at parade

National martial art exponents showcased their skills in a performance at Brunei Darussalam’s 37th National Day Grand Assembly and Parade ceremony at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday.

Southeast Asian Games wushu silver medalists Basma Lachkar said, “I feel honoured to participate in this year’s National Day. With COVID-19, we must follow the issued guidelines. It is important to keep everyone safe in the new normal.”

Meanwhile Taekwondo national athlete Hyde Nathania Hijium said, “Despite last minute changes in preparation, I am grateful to be selected to participate in this year’s National Day.

“It is an amazing experience to contribute to the country by performing in front of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the royal family as well as the nation.”
