Marking 30 years of achievements

McDonald’s Brunei organised a 30th anniversary celebration at its Gadong branch yesterday.

Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd Chairman Edzwan Zukri bin Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Adanan joined as the guest of honour along with other members of the board of directors.

McDonald’s Brunei Operation Consultant Hartini binti Haji Hussin said it started operation in December 15, 1992 as a joint venture with McDonald’s Malaysia. In 2011, it obtained developmental licence from McDonald’s Corporations and was taken over by Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd where the business was registered as Syarikat Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd.

Under Darussalam Assets, McDonald’s Brunei expanded its business to open a second branch on June 28, 2016 followed by the third and fourth branches on October 26, 2018 and May 1, 2022. To date, McDonald’s Brunei has 260 staff with 100 per cent localisation, which was achieved in 2018.

The celebration saw a video presentation titled ‘Journey with McDonald’s’ and a cake-cutting ceremony by the guest of honour and the board of directors.

The chairman also launched new packaging showcasing Brunei landmarks, designed by local artist Liyana Hanif. The design has also incorporated augmented reality designed by SKETCHONE Studio.

The event also saw the handover of donations from diners to four non-governmental organisations.

Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Assistant Officer Nur Qistina binti Haji Abang Nordin received BND8,437.29 on behalf of the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) while Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) Vice Chair Tsara’ Nawwarah Abdullah Chen received BND1,189 on behalf of the foundation.

Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei President Pengiran Zamri bin Pengiran Haji Bujang received BND1,189 on behalf of the organisation while Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BRC) Volunteer Manager Fatin Nurina binti Morshidi received BND1,141.38 on behalf of the association.
