A 34-year-old Indonesian man was sentenced to 16 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to four charges, leading to the death of a 44-year-old man whose body was found by the roadside in Seria last July.
Hermanto pleaded guilty to four charges under Section 304A(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 for the offence of rash driving causing death, Section 31 of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 68 for the offence of failure to render assistance to an injured person, Section 33(1), Chapter 68 of the Road Traffic Act, for the offence of failure to stop after an accident and Section 33(2), Chapter 68 of the Road Traffic Act, for the offence of failure to report an accident to a police officer within 24 hours.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman highlighted that the defendant had blatantly disregarded the victim’s well-being and showed no remorse for his actions.
