Man jailed for cable theft

Mohd Azwa’an bin Karim was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment yesterday by the Bandar Magistrate’s court after he was found guilty of cable theft and damaging building property.

Following investigation by the Berakas Police Station, suspect Mohd Azwa’an, 21, was found involved in theft of a cable in a restaurant at Berakas.

The CCTV showed the suspect opening the door of the electric box with a sharp cutting tool and then took the cable away. The stolen electric cable was sold for BND50 at a scrap metal workshop in Kampong Burong Pingai, Berakas.

The court sentenced Mohd Azwa’an to 12 months of imprisonment under the charges of

Section 379 (theft) and Section 426 (damaging property) of the Penal Code Chapter 22. The prison term started yesterday at Maraburong Prison.

The Royal Brunei Police Force urged the public to cooperate or come forward to share any information in combatting crimes.
