A 26-year-old local man was detained by the police yesterday morning for allegedly smuggling 747 cartons of cigarettes.
According to the Royal Brunei Police Force, a routine patrol at Kampong Kuala Lurah came across two suspicious vehicles without a driver.
The patrol later found an individual believed to be the driver and owner of one of the vehicles.
An inspection on the vehicle discovered large boxes containing 747 cartons of cigarettes.
The suspect and the contraband were brought back to the Limau Manis Police Station for initial investigation and handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for further questioning.
