A PERMANENT resident was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by the Intermediate Court yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of house trespassing for theft.
Shamsuddin bin Mohammad, 36, had enlisted another person to aid him in the commission of these offences. On February 11, he was given a lift by his accomplice, who drove from their meeting-point at a supermarket in Kampong Mentiri towards a block of flats in Kampong Kiarong.
The accomplice waited in the car, while the defendant broke into one of the flats and ransacked it, taking with him four mobile phones, a Samsung Tab, a mobile power bank, gold jewellery, two walkie-talkies and a Playstation console.
Deputy Public Prosecutors Aeny Zullizam and Raihan Nabilah binti Ahmad Ghazali informed the court that the defendant gave one of the stolen mobile phones to his accomplice, after pawning a gold bracelet and a locket for BND490.
The defendant kept BND200 for himself, while the remainder was given to the accomplice.
Presiding Judge Pengiran Hajah Norismayanti binti Pengiran Haji Ismail also heard from the prosecution that the defendant had a long history of previous convictions for theft-related offences.
Meanwhile, the co-accused, Rasidah binti Metussin, 31, has denied the charge which alleges that she was involved in the commission of the offences.
The trial against Rasidah is ongoing.
