Prosecutors yesterday drafted more charges against a 42-year-old Bangladeshi man of human trafficking.

Khairul Bashar denied six counts against him pressed by Deputy Public Prosecutors Rozaimah binti Abdul Rahman and Nor’adliatul Hidayah binti Haji Mohd Zaidi in the High Court.

Judicial Commissioner Muhammad Faisal bin Pehin Datu Juragan Laila Diraja Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Kefli heard that Khairul Bashar allegedly committed six counts under Section 4 of the Trafficking and Smuggling of Persons Order 2004 for committing the offence of people trafficking.

Investigations revealed that the defendant trafficked six Bangladeshi men to the Sultanate in 2018 and 2019 through deception for the purposes of forced labour.

Each charge carries a penalty of a maximum fine of BND1,000,000, imprisonment for a maximum of 30 years and whipping.

The court adjourned the case to May 10 for trial dates to be fixed.
