Malaysia’s natural rubber production in December 2019 up 6.2pc

KUALA LUMPUR (BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) production in December 2019 increased 6.2 per cent to 58,437 tonnes from the same month in the previous year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).

In its Monthly Rubber Statistics Malaysia released yesterday, DoSM said the December production also showed an increase of 10.2 per cent from 53,019 tonnes in the previous month.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said NR exports rose by 6.4 per cent to 50,516 tonnes against 47,488 tonnes in November 2019, with China remaining the main export destination taking 55.9 per cent of the total natural rubber exports, followed by Germany (10.1 per cent), the US (3.7 per cent), Finland (3.6 per cent) and Italy (2.7 per cent).

He said NR stocks in December 2019 rose 13.1 per cent to 245,002 tonnes from 216,582 tonnes in November 2019.

“The average price of latex concentrate was 455.17sen per kilogramme in December 2019, up by 3.3 per cent as compared to November 2019. The average price of Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 (SMR 20) gained 5.2 per cent to 595.50 sen per kilogramme for the same period,” he added.

Mohd Uzir said total domestic NR consumption fell 2.7 per cent to 40,351 tonnes against 41,463 tonnes in November 2019.

The rubber gloves industry dominated the use of natural rubber with 30,517 tonnes or 75.6 per cent of the total domestic consumption, he said.
