The Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (BKISHHB) received a visit from a delegation from the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Malaysia recently.

The visit aimed to explore possible cooperation in a number of fields, including research.

According to BKISHHB, the institution is expected to become a centre for Islamic knowledge and heritage as it hosts a number of important Islamic artefacts and historical pieces.

The institution said there are various types of mushaf displayed at BKISHHB with origins from several countries including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Spain, Pakistan and India.

The collections also highlight various types of calligraphy (the art of writing) such as Kufi, Thuluth, Nasakh, Farisi, Rayhani, Diwani, and Riq’ah.

These mushaf also have unique designs and motifs focussing on Islamic art, using Islamic geometric patterns, flowers, and leaf motifs and colours.

A particular copy of interest is a mushaf which belonged to Ahmed Syamsuddin Karahisari, the Quranic Stone, which is a carved copy of Al-Quran on stone.
