A MALAYSIAN citizen was handed a fine of BND48,000, after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to the possession of smuggled cigarettes.
Masni bin Sirat, 56, was ordered to settle the fine or serve a year’s imprisonment in default of payment.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard from the Customs prosecutor that the defendant arrived by car at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post at 4.15pm on July 1.
An inspection by Customs examiners led to the discovery of 60 cartons of cigarettes in the defendant’s car.
