THE Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday held an admission ceremony for Ri’ayah Wa Mahabbah Programme Year 6 students into the hostel of Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) in Gadong, at the multipurpose hall of the hostel.
The annual programme, which began in 2014, is an ongoing initiative by the MoE to enhance performance and improve the Primary School Assessment (PSR) examination results of government school students.
Students involved in this programme have been identified to be in need of support (particularly with attendance issue) for which hostel lodging and transport are provided to ensure they attend school and do not miss classes. This year, 20 government primary school students are taking part in the programme.
They will be placed at the hostel full time throughout their 2018 academic session, and will also be involved in academic, spiritual and sporting activities.
The programme aims to ensure less privileged students get an education and boost self-confidence, among others.
The ceremony began with welcome remarks by Chairman Haji Mohd Sharifuddin bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Special Duties Senior Officer (Corporate) of Schools Department.
Lined up events include briefing on hostel rules and regulations delivered by Hostel Head Officer Mohammad Ariffin bin Haji Matusin; video of last year’s Year 6 students placement at Maktab Duli; and a question-and-answer session with parents and guardians.
