SOME 250 literature students from eight secondary schools and sixth form centres attended ‘Shakespeare Day,’ hosted by Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College (Maktab Duli) yesterday.
The event aimed at raising awareness on the importance of English Literature studies as well as providing practical assistance for students studying Shakespeare in their literature exam preparations.
Students gained new insights and ideas, and learnt different approaches to Shakespearean studies through activities and workshops conducted by teachers from different schools.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Head of Shakespeare Day Committee Alwin Chong Kai Shiang, followed by a keynote speech by the guest of honour, Country Head of Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) Brunei Dominic Morley.
Morley and Acting Principal of Maktab Duli Hajah Monaliza binti Haji Abdul Halim launched the event.
Organised by the Maktab Duli English Language and Literature Department, the event included fun activities and the Romeo and Juliet play and mini competitions.
The guest of honour awarded prizes to the winners.
