The year 2020 had been unprecedented and full of challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Secondary School Principal Chong Li Chen said.

“Schools in Brunei were closed for three months due to the pandemic with most people working from home with virtual meetings and online learning while students and teachers familiarised themselves with using Office 365 and video conferencing via Microsoft Teams,” she said.

The principal made these comments during YSHHB Secondary School Academic Awards Ceremony for BGCE ‘O’ Level 2020 at the school’s multipurpose hall yesterday where 46 students were celebrated.

“On a positive note, this has accelerated digitalisation. However, we were very concerned as it is difficult to measure students’ academic progress,” the principal said.

“Despite these challenges, our students did well in the ‘O’ Level exams.”

YSHHB Schools Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Fliti Abdel Majed was the guest of honour who also addressed the gathering.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. YSHHB Secondary School’s top student Dayangku Nur Salsabila binti Pengiran Mohammad Salimin who achieved 10 distinctions also delivered a speech. A video clip was screened prior to the awards presentation.

The event’s objective was to recognise students’ achievements for the November BGCE ‘O’ Level Examination 2020 and to motivate YSHHB Secondary School students to achieve their academic goals.
