I would like to raise my concerns on the smoking laws in the country.
To my understanding, smoking is only allowed six metres away from buildings and public spaces according to the Tobacco Order.
However, I feel that the Ministry of Health should take a step further by making Brunei Darussalam a tobacco-free country.
We have already done the groundwork by ceasing the issuing of licences to sell or import tobacco.
It is common to see smokers at staircases of buildings and these areas filled with tobacco smoke creating a health hazard.
I also realised that people smoke in vehicles while driving. They later throw the cigarette butts on to the roads.
Can the authorities look into this?
