The sole candidate for penghulu of Mukim Kiudang 53-year-old Muhammad Amir bin Haji Umar Ali did not receive a majority of votes during the election yesterday.

The candidate received 141 votes out of 315, with 164 voting against and another 10 votes declared invalid. In-person voting for the position took place at the Birau Primary School yesterday.

Voting via the PMKK e-Undi mobile app started on Friday.

Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri in his opening remarks hoped that villagers had carried out their responsibility as voters.

He also said he believed villagers in the Tutong District have the potential and capabilities to fill in positions of village heads and penghulus, and to come forward.

The results will be presented to the Board of Appointment, Discipline and Procedures for Mukim Penghulu and Village Head at the Ministry of Home Affairs for further processing.
