His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam graced the finale of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas last night.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman in his capacity as Chairman of the Executive Committee for Major Islamic Events Celebration for 1441 Hijrah and Chairman of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults 1441 Hijrah/2020; Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara; State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned; Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar; Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar; and other committee members.
The ceremony began with a recitation of verses from Al-Quran by Hasnae Khoulali champion Qariah from Morocco of the International Al-Quran Reading Competition in Kuala Lumpur 2012.
In his welcoming speech, the Minister of Religious Affairs said the competition helps to appreciate the reading of Al-Quran, and seeking the blessing of Allah the Almighty through Al-Quran for the peace of the country, and always being under the protection of Allah, and away from the outbreak of disease and disaster.
The ceremony then continued with a delivery of titah by His Majesty.
Announcing the results of the competition, the competition’s chief jury Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh touched on achievements made by the Qaris and Qariahs for this year, and need to focus more while reading.
Mohammad bin Ali was announced as the champion Qari of this year’s National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Adults, while Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki emerged as the champion Qariah. His Majesty presented the prizes to the competition winners and participants.
The champion Qari and Qariah received a Haj package, a cash prize of BND7,000, a pure gold bar weighing 20 grammes worth BND3,164 donated by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), Insurans Islam TAIB and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd, an embroidered cloth donated by Little Ummi Company, trophy as well as a participation certificate.
The runner-up Qari and Qariah, Pengiran Amirul Aiman bin Pengiran Haji Marjuki and Dayangku Fauziah Nadhirah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri received BND5,000 cash, a pure gold bar weighing 10 grammes worth BND1,582; a trophy and a certificate.
Third-place Qari and Qariah went to Muhammad Zul Hafiz bin Awang Tengah and Siti Zahrina binti Haji Abdul Wahab who received BND3,000 cash, a pure gold bar weighing five grammes worth BND791 donated by Perbadanan TAIB, Insurans Islam TAIB and Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd; a trophy and certificate.
The ceremony witnessed the champions of the competition read the verses of Al-Quran.
This year, 12 participants comprising six Qari and six Qariah participated in the competition.The ceremony themed ‘Menjana Keberkatan Rezeki dengan Al-Quran’, was enlivened with a mini exhibition and book sales from the government agencies, Muallaf Entrepreneur Sale and from other private companies. To bless the ceremony, a Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.
