Look at the past during National Day celebration

THE Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Secondary School (SMRIPAS) held a 35th National Day celebration at the school’s hall recently.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Ustaz Jullaihi bin Masri followed by the singing of the national anthem.

Deputy Principal (Academic) of SMRIPAS Hajah Roslani binti Haji Abdul Raffar congratulated the teachers, staff and students involved in the recent National Day Parade.

Cicysuni Chong as representative of the event’s co-organisers gave a presentation of historical photos accompanied by a brief reminder of Brunei’s past during the British Residency, Japanese occupation and the road to independence in 1984.

His talk also focussed on how today’s generation’s dependence on technology with gadgets allowing access to information in one touch.

He encouraged everyone to embrace reality and not be too immersed in the cyber world by striving to elevate the nation’s advancement instead of simply upgrading a game’s level.

He urged everyone to strive together to accomplish the national vision to put Brunei at par with the developed countries.

The event also saw the displays of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam titah during the 35th National Day and videos showing SMRIPAS’ involvement in the celebration.

The event also coincided with the presentation of badges and neckties to prefects and Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya (PRS) and singing of patriotic songs.

A National Day Quiz was hosted by Cicysuni Chong. The day’s event concluded with the recitation of Surah Al-‘Asr led by Ustaz Jullaihi.
