Locals are urged to fill the gap left by foreign workers who left the Sultanate following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah made this call at a press conference yesterday, adding that “this has brought a shortage of workers for many businesses in Brunei Darussalam”.
The minister was responding to a media query concerning the foreign labour and staff shortage faced by private companies, including shops and restaurants.
“This shortage is faced by other countries too, including Europe, where typically the individuals’ travel arrangements, either for holiday or repatriation, would be complicated by COVID-19 protocols. This is also the best time for locals to fill in the gaps and try their hands at various job openings,” he said.
“There are 3,000 openings at the JobCentre,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew said, adding that the centre plans to enhance strategies for the job market.
