Local men arrested for stealing jetty construction equipment

THE Sungai Liang Police Station have arrested four local men and produced them in the Bandar Magistrate’s Court on charges of theft of equipment from a jetty construction project on Jalan Pantai Sungai Liang in the Belait District.

According to the Royal Brunei Police Force, the four men are accused of stealing welding machines, a battery unit for trucks and electrical cables from the area, and pleaded guilty to the charges in court yesterday.

During trial before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman, the first two defendants, Azmi bin Jali, 32, and Zul Helme bin Haji Timbang, 36, both working as security guards at Haji Adinin & Sons Sdn Bhd, were sentenced to four months in prison. The third defendant, Azrul bin Haji Jali, 27 and unemployed, was sentenced to two months in jail.

Police said that the fourth defendant, 42-year-old Haji Endi Endrawadi bin Haji Md Idris, also unemployed, has been granted bail by the court, with the next hearing scheduled for July 11.

The prosecution for the case is being carried out by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syazwani binti Jumat.
