A LOCAL man was sentenced to 16 months in the slammer by the Intermediate Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to trespassing into a house to commit theft.

Judge Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Haji Kefli heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh that the defendant, 26-year-old Mohamed Arif bin Norhamdi Shukri, trespassed into a house at Kampong Sengkurong ‘B’, Jalan Jerudong, at 1pm on January 2.

There, he stole four hard disk drives (two of which were 2TB disks), five game consoles, an Apple iPhone 4, two handheld game consoles and one Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone.

The court was also informed that the defendant nonchalantly entered the house through the back door, moving into the kitchen where he then made his way upstairs and went into one of the bedrooms where he stole the items.

After doing so, he went down the stairs and bumped into the housemaid, prompting the maid to scream and ask who he was.

The defendant ignored the maid and hurriedly escaped.

The maid informed the homeowner of the incident after he came home from work.

A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to the defendant’s arrest.
