Local man fined for gambling

The Magistrate’s Court ordered a local man to settle a BND6,000 fine yesterday after he pleaded guilty to hosting a game of Katam-Katam.

Muhammad Nur Arifin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, 33, will serve six months in jail in default of payment.

According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Dr Mohd Hussin Ali bin Idris, a raid was conducted by the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force at 1am on January 28 at to the defendant’s house in Kampong Perpindahan Lambak Kanan.

Several people were apprehended and the police seized a Katam-Katam cloth with some cash.

Investigations revealed that the defendant is the house owner and was arrested.

Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim presided over the case.
