AN UNEMPLOYED local man was produced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday to face a charge of vehicle theft under Section 379, Chapter 22 of the Penal Code.
The vehicle was reported stolen at the Berakas Police Station on July 18.
According to the person who filed the report, the vehicle went missing outside the commercial premises on Jalan Pulaie after being left unattended for a few minutes.
Following investigations, police detained a suspect – 23-year-old Mohammad Asmadi bin Busrah – and seized a stolen vehicle at a location on Jalan Kebangsaan Lama, Berakas.
Mohammad Asmadi was found guilty of stealing the vehicle following court proceedings and ordered to serve 12 months’ imprisonment at Maraburong Prison beginning July 20.
The Royal Brunei Police Force reminded the public to always be alert and not leave their vehicles unattended at public places while the engine is still on, and to ensure that their cars are locked and engine switched off before leaving their vehicles.
