THE Magistrate’s Court charged a 41-year-old local male primary school teacher yesterday with an offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22 for allegedly assaulting one of his students earlier this year.
The defendant, whose name is withheld to protect the identity of the victim, a nine-year-old, is alleged to have committed the offence on March 3 at a primary school in the Tutong District.
If convicted, the defendant could face up to three years imprisonment and a fine.
DPP Siti Nurjauinah binti Haji Kula applied for the charge to be read and for the defendant’s plea to be recorded.
However, Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar adjourned the case to June 25 to allow the defendant’s request for time to seek legal representation.
