A local man who pleaded guilty to charges of theft and mischief received an eight month jail sentence in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Acting Senior Magistrate Pengiran Hazirah binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof heard from DPP Ahmad Firdaus Mohammad that Muhammad Farthulislam bin Muhammad Arfan, 29, first struck at a house in Perpindahan Rimba, Gadong sometime between June 26 and 27. He was walking to a friend’s house when he passed the house and forcibly removed a section of the fence, damaging it, and went towards the garage.
There he saw a welding machine and took it to a friend’s house to give it to him. The owner realised his property was missing and filed a police report.
Sometime between July 22 and 23, the defendant struck a house in Perpindahan Rimba, Gadong.
He was again walking towards a friend’s house when he passed the second house and found two gas cylinders in a zinc storage box.
He cut open the lock with a cutter damaging the lock during the process. He then brought the gas cylinders and hid them at a convenience store and later sold both for BND60.
The owner filed a police report on learning that her property was missing on July 23 morning.
Police investigations led to the defendant’s arrest the same day.
