Local gets jail, whipping for thefts, armed roberry

The Intermediate Court handed a 10-year and one-month imprisonment with 12 whippings to a local man who committed a series of break-ins and trespass for thefts and armed robbery.

Judge Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni handed down the sentence to Mohammad Rahmat bin Abdul Rahman, after considering previous charges and sentences along with the armed robbery charge leading to the total sentence.

DPP Nurul Fitri binti Kiprawi’s charge and facts of the case which had been admitted by the defendant stated that he entered a house at STKRJ Kampong Lugu at 2.30am on February 7, 2019 where he bumped into a woman who is the house occupant.

The defendant approached the victim who was in a panic state and grabbed her hand, pointed a knife towards her chest and covered her mouth with his hand.

The defendant brought the victim towards the front door where he then took a car key hanging on the wall and left the house.

The victim shouted for help which was heard by her sister who ran down and checked outside the house.

The victim’s sister saw the defendant drive the car out of the porch.

A police report was immediately lodged leading to the defendant’s arrest.
