A local man was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for house trespassing and mischief by causing damage.
Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar heard from Prosecutor Hajah ‘Adzimah Mukarramah binti Haji Salleh that Mohamad Audilah bin Haji Idris, 28, had committed the offences at a house in Kampong Putat at 11am on September 9.
A policeman passing the area had become suspicious on seeing a car parked in front of the house, knowing that it was unoccupied. He approached the defendant to ask him what he was doing there. The defendant replied that he was renovating the house, which he said belonged to his cousin. He also said that he had instructed two men to knock down the walls, which somehow prompted the policeman to arrest him.
Investigations revealed that the defendant had paid two men to knock down the house walls, without prior permission from the owners.
